How it works
It isn't a customer add-on or a round-up: you don't pay a cent more than the price of your order, and there's nothing to sign up for. The donation comes out of what we earn. The whole mechanism:

Place any order on our online store. Every online order counts — no minimum, no special product.
We set aside 3%
The moment your order is placed, 3% of the subtotal is calculated and set aside for Doctors Without Borders, out of our margin. Your total doesn't change.
We remit and report
We donate to MSF Canada quarterly and update the running total on this page so you can see it add up.
Why we do it
We're a Canadian, family-owned business that believes a local company should leave its community better than it found it. Giving from every online order — instead of occasional donations — keeps that commitment genuine and ongoing. We chose Doctors Without Borders because they work in places most organizations can't or won't, delivering humanitarian and medical care to people experiencing conflict, epidemics, or natural disasters. Our roots are firmly local, but compassion has no borders. Supporting MSF lets us — and you — help provide critical care to people facing some of the world's most urgent humanitarian crises.
Who it helps, and where the money goes
MSF provides impartial emergency medical care to people affected by armed conflict, disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and exclusion from healthcare in more than 70 countries. Care is provided based solely on need, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender, or political affiliation. As an independent organization, MSF also speaks out about the humanitarian crises its teams witness, to advocate for those most at risk.
Every donation goes to MSF Canada, which supports MSF's global medical humanitarian work — funding emergency responses wherever needs are greatest, from conflict zones and refugee camps to communities affected by epidemics, malnutrition, and natural disasters, so medical teams have the staff, supplies, and resources to respond immediately.

Common questions
Does this cost me anything extra?
No. The donation comes out of Good Day's margin, not your total. You pay the same price for the same materials whether the program exists or not — no surcharge, no round-up, and nothing to opt into at checkout.
Do I get a charitable tax receipt?
No. Good Day is the donor — the donation comes from our revenue, so the tax receipt is ours. If you'd like a receipt of your own, you can give to Doctors Without Borders Canada directly through their website.
Do in-store purchases count?
No — Building Good applies to online orders only, placed at gdbuildingsupply.com. Purchases made at the counter at 3447 Kennedy Road don't route through the program.
How is the 3% calculated?
On the order subtotal after any discounts are applied, before HST and shipping. That's the amount you actually spent on materials — we don't inflate the donation base with tax or freight, and we don't shrink it by calculating before your discount.
What happens if I return my order?
Refunded orders come out of the total at the quarterly reconciliation, before we remit. The counter on this page only ever reflects money that's genuinely committed — not orders that were later returned.

The honest fine print
We want to be straight about how the number works. The 3% is calculated on the order subtotal after any discounts, before tax and shipping — the money you actually spent on materials. The counter shows what we've committed to Doctors Without Borders since launch, reconciled quarterly to what actually leaves our account. It's a running total we stand behind, not a live meter, and it doesn't count orders that were later refunded. It applies to online orders only. If you ever want to see the detail behind the number, ask — we'll show you.
