The Stepped Edge, A Heavier Frame

Back band colonial casing in finger-joint wood adds the extra step that plain casing leaves out — a raised, stepped outer edge that frames a door or window with more depth and shadow than a flat-faced colonial profile. It reads as a heavier, more traditional casing without the cost of building up trim from separate pieces, and carries the same ogee language as colonial baseboard so the room stays consistent. It takes primer to a smooth, paint-ready face that needs only a top-coat, and the finger-joint body holds a brad without the crumbling that gives composite trim away at a mitred corner. Unlike the MDF casing most yards carry, this is real wood: it resists the denting and corner blow-out that chip fiberboard at the joints, and carries no urea-formaldehyde core to off-gas into the room. The 3-inch face gives a broad, substantial frame for taller doors and traditional interiors. Supplied in 7-foot lengths — mitre or cope the corners, caulk, and paint it like any premium wood trim.

Features
  • Back band profile — a raised, stepped outer edge that adds depth and shadow over a flat colonial face
  • Finger-joint wood body — holds a brad and resists the corner blow-out that chips MDF casing at mitres
  • Factory-primed face — paint-ready surface needs only a finish top-coat to match doors, walls, or baseboard
  • 3" face width — a broad, substantial frame for taller doors and traditional interiors
  • No urea-formaldehyde core — finger-joint wood does not off-gas the way composite MDF trim can
  • The built-up look without the work — one piece instead of layering separate trim
  • Mitres and copes clean — works like standard wood trim with finish or brad nails
