The Frame the Door Hangs On

A door jamb in finger-joint wood is the frame member a door actually hangs and closes against — the hinge-side and strike-side uprights plus the head that together form a finished interior opening. This is jamb stock, factory-primed and paint-ready, supplied as a blank (unmachined) so hinge and strike mortises can be cut to match your specific hardware and reveal. The 4-5/8 inch width is sized for the most common interior wall — a 2×4 frame with 1/2-inch drywall on each side, where the standard jamb depth runs about 4-9/16 inch — leaving room to scribe or shim for a flush, even reveal. A wider 6 inch option covers thicker wall assemblies. Finger-joint construction keeps the stick straight and dimensionally stable for a long jamb leg, and the primed face takes a finish coat cleanly. Build the side and head jambs for a 78 or 80 inch door, then pair with casing and a doorstop to complete the opening. If you'd rather skip the machining, our pre-machined jamb arrives with hinge mortises already cut.

Features
  • Structural frame member — the upright a door hangs on (hinge side) and closes against (strike side)
  • Finger-joint wood — straight and dimensionally stable for a long jamb leg; holds a hinge screw and takes paint cleanly
  • Factory-primed, paint-ready — eliminates field undercoating and speeds the finish coat
  • Supplied unmachined (blank) — cut hinge and strike mortises to your own hardware and reveal
  • 4-5/8" width for standard 2×4 + 1/2" drywall walls; 6" for thicker wall assemblies
  • Lengths for 78" and 80" doors — build side and head jambs from 7' and 8' stock
  • Pairs with casing and doorstop to complete the opening
