Electric floor warming usually means pouring self-leveling compound over the cables and waiting a day before a single tile goes down. Schluter DITRA-HEAT skips that entirely: its stud structure is purpose-built so DITRA-HEAT-E-HK heating cables press in between the studs, encapsulated by the membrane itself, and tile is set directly over the top with unmodified thin-set as soon as the cables are placed. Underneath, it is still DITRA — uncoupling that neutralizes the substrate movement that cracks tile and grout, waterproofing that protects moisture-sensitive subfloors, vapor management, and load distribution through column-like mortar structures formed between the studs. At a nominal 1/4 inch it keeps the assembly low and the transitions to adjacent flooring shallow, and it accepts more than tile: engineered wood, LVT, LVP, WPC, SPC, and laminate all work over it. Cables go only where heat is wanted, so a vanity or a fridge footprint costs nothing to skip. One roll covers 134.5 square feet. Membrane only — cables, thermostat, and sensor sold separately.
